Return of the Swamp Thing.

It has been a fistful of long and trouble-tainted years since Louisiana ghost-rockers Santeria have graced us with a transmission from the swamplands. 2003’s House Of The Dying Sun was a masterpiece of sun-boiled powerblues and midnight psychedelia, a surreal and evocative road trip into the very heart of darkness.

Five years on, and the band’s propensity for writing songs that haunt and beguile has not waned. When they are in full Southern death-boogie mode, as in the tribal-stomping Leave Something Witchy, or the riff-gasmic Haunted Heart, Santeria sound like a gothic Allman Brothers, a sort of funeral party jam band, at once mournful and joyous.

Elsewhere, among other ethereal delights, there’s the fantastically weird Mexico, which mashes a Bob Seger-esque narrative with a lonesome acoustic guitar and a brass section, the ska-tinged Sold My Soul for Nothing, and the brooding psyche-grunge of You Got What I Need.

Anchored by frontman Dege Legg’s breathy shaman drawl, Year Of The Knife is so atmospheric you may need fog lights to find your way back to reality.

R.I.P. Shane Hebert

Former Elephantman guitarist from the Lucas-era, Shane Hebert (ay-bare), died last night. He was battling lymphoma, which turned into leukemia.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends.

More details to come.

Primo's going to get me an address so maybe we could all make a small donation to help his family out a little bit. The family's not asking for donations; Primo just thought it'd be something nice to do for them, and I agree. No donation is too small, and if you can't afford it, don't worry about it. Once I get the information I'll post it.

This is the new news section of Skeletal Circus. It's blog driven, which allows me to let people close to the bands add news to this section anytime they want without having to deal with me at all. I'm going to try to get as many band members (and close friends of those band members) as I can to post to the news blog. It should make for a very active and more importantly, very accurate news source for fans of the bands we follow here at The Circus. Everytime someone makes a post on the news blog, the message will show up here, so check back often.

The Skeletal Circus is a Website dedicated to Dax Riggs; ex-frontman for Acid Bath, Agents of Oblivion, and deadboy & the Elephantmen, and currently fronting the "Dax Riggs" band. You'll find vids, tunes, tabs, photos, artwork, poetry and a bunch of other shit throughout the site and forums. Most of the vids you see on YouTube originated here, so you'll probably find any of them here in larger, higher quality MPEG and AVI formats. There are hundreds of shows for download on the forums. Just register (for free) and they're all yours... no strings attached.

The navigation system is pretty straight forward. The horizontal menu will lead you to a particular band's section. Each band has a vertical menu on the left, which will lead you to that band's sub-sections. It's that simple! Make sure you go into the "junk drawer" and "misc" sections for shit I couldn't find a category for. Be sure to stop by the site and/or forums often... we're constantly addin' shit, thanks to the many contributions by our community members.

For all the latest Dax related info... JOIN THE FORUMS! If you have shit that you think belongs on this site, just JOIN THE FORUMS and send me, N_G_J, a private message. You'll get credit for it.

One more thing... if something is labeled NEW, it doesn't necessarily mean it's new to this world... it just means it's new to this site.
