Pit Magazine Interview by: Errin Klein

From the swamps of Louisiana come ACID BATH. Formed in '91, they play a sort of trippy, intense music - quite hard to categorize, really. The aggressive guitars, fast beats and intense, moody vocals found on their latest release, Paegan Terrorism Tactics, characterize their unique sound. Dax spoke with us upon returning to the bayou from the band's latest tour.

Pit: How would you describe your music?

Dax: It's some kind of pure form of death rock. Like it's supposed to be, just like it sounds -- death rock. It's death and doom affiliated. I don't know, it's really a hard question fr me. I just think of it as - we just try to do all kinds of different things inside the context of, you know, the death rock thing.

Pit: What does ACID BATH refer to?

Dax: We're putting all kinds of different elements together. We don't just do it abruptly; we get into the whole scheme of things. It's a lot of different elements of each member, um, disintegrating and becoming somthing else. Like me and Sammy, we get each other into our own music, but we're in different places, musically.

Pit: What's your musical background?

Dax: Pretty much the same as everybody else that's into metal. What I listen to now is a lot of David Bowie, and older music, psychedelic stuff. And Sammy's more on the cutting edge of like Black metal. I don't want to make this all about that...

Pit: What do you want to talk about -- do you have any hobbies?

Dax: Well, I behead roadkill and save the skulls. Let's see, I'd like to say somthing about Paegan Terrorism Tactics...

Pit: Ok...what does it mean?

Dax: It's like a wave of thinking that is Anti-Christian. A lot of people are in on this. I'm making commercials for Paganism and the death of, you know, Christian organization. It's like a dark wave length of thought that many people are on -- Paegan Terrorism Tactics. I believe its gaining momentum as we speak.

Pit: Why do you say its Terrorism?

Dax: There's an established thing right now, so any thing outside that is considered by them - it would be their codename for all activity that is like ourselves, or other bands.

Pit: But you don't see it as terrorism?

Dax: Right. I think its a revolution.

Pit: What are you doing to further it?

Dax: Singing some songs. Getting high. Talking to people.

Pit: Whats the main thing wrong with Christianity?

Dax: I think it oppresses people, and that makes for un-well-rounded individuals. It's the death of millions. And thats it, really. The cover things up; I know that now. They shouldn't be able to thrive after what they've done and covered up in the past. The sex scandals, for one. I believe there are a lot of things we don't know about. I feel like it's a kind of a company -- with a very bad history of, well, burning people.
